Energy and Water Wheels

It was exciting designing and creating water wheels to investigate their efficiency when lifting a weight.

We discovered a water wheel uses Gravatational Energy which is transformed into Movement Energy. The Movement Energy of the water is then transferred to the water wheel to make it work.

Slippery, Slimy Snails!

“We had a really fun Science lesson today looking at snails. I even held a baby snail and looked at their bodies through a magnifying glass” – Audrey Group 4

Chantel

“It was really exciting and fun in Science because l’ve never seen a snail that close before. It was interesting watching how it was moving and how it felt in my hand” – Chantel Group 4

“Preeti and l named the snails we looked at today in Science- their names were Rhino, Besi and Daniel. It was very interesting having a close up look at the snails with the magnifying glass. We noticed many things including a hole near the snails feelers, this is a breathing hole-

“Today was the first time l have seen a snail, especially so close up. My snail kept moving onto the side of the plate. It was so fun to watch and touch the snail- Anaelle Group 4

Year 3/4 Science this week

This week in Science we observed rocks. We scratched glass with our rocks to test the hardness of our rocks. My rocks were hard. (Benjamin)

Today in Science we investigated rocks. We had equipment such as magnifying glasses, gloves, rocks and glass bottles. We had to see if the rocks scratched the glass bottles. If you ask me it was pretty fun. (Stephanie)

It was a lot of fun learning about rocks and soils because l love using magnifying glasses. (Leila)

Group 11 Comments- Different types of Energy around our school

  • Today we learnt about energy and the different types of energy.
  • Today we looked around our school for objects and what type of energy they were using and emitting/producing.DSCF4810
  • I found out that trees can emit energy.
  • I found out that there are many different types of energy such as movement and elastic energy.
  • I enjoyed discovering the different the types of energy there are.
  • I want to know more about other objects that make and use energy.
  • I want to know more about how the sun gives us energy.
  • I found out that energy means being able to do work and how things change and move.

  • I enjoyed using the iPads to research and find out what energy means.
  • I want to know more about energy and what other ways we can use it.

Science- Making orreries of the Sun, Moon and Earth

DSCF4697In Science we are making orreries which are 3D models that have moving parts.

My Collaborative Learning Team made an orrery of the Sun, Earth and Moon, and how they move around each other. We think the Moon orbits around the Earth, while the Earth orbits the Sun. The Sun doesn’t orbit around anything. It was challenging thinking of a way to keep the orrery standing up and it was really fun creating it. Each of us made different parts of our orrery and l got to make the moon.

Welcome to our new Science Blog

We are so excited about our new Science blog on our school website.

It is going to be another way that we can share our ideas and pictures about all the learning that is going on in our Science lessons at school.

Shortly there will be some more information about our new Science blog.
